Learning Centre Rates and Information

Moora Moora Learning Centre.

Here is some information that may be helpful for you about Moora Moora and our Learning Centre:

Moora Moora is an intentional cooperative community of approx. fifty adults and thirty children about one and a half hours drive east of central Melbourne. We maintain a focus on sustainable-living and maintain nearly all of our own services such as roads, water and energy, for example all of our buildings are solar-powered with wood heating. We are on about 240 hectares of beautiful bushland, with a cultivated garden, a tennis court and a large dam in which can be used for swimming in summer.

In our main building called the Lodge, we have a lounge room with comfortable seating, a piano, wood heater and magazine library; a dining room with eight round tables seating five people each and a wood heater; a kitchen; three toilets, three showers, a and two hand basins. Upstairs we have three bedrooms - one with five bunks and one single bed; one with a bunk and a single bed; one with four bunks.

Downstairs, there are two bedrooms – one with a queen-size bed and one with two single beds. Therefore, our Lodge can sleep 26 people.
We also have a separate building called the Octagon which is used for workshops and group processes. It is approximately circular with a diameter of fourteen metres and has some lounge seating, numerous folding chairs, and a wood heater. Male and female toilets are nearby.

Internet access is available and we can provide audio systems and a data projector if required.

I need to tell you that the bedroom and bathroom accommodation is more like the standard of an older backpacker’s establishment than a modern motel. We are slowly upgrading our facilities and hope to complete this during 2011/12. Most of the groups we have been hosting have been in the areas of sustainable living (which is the intention of our community), earth-building, sacred ecology and spirituality and they usually find the lived-in standard acceptable.

Our rates are:

The Lodge:

Accommodation is $30 per person for the first night with a minimum charge of $450 (fifteen people); then $25 per person for each subsequent night with a minimum charge of $375 per night. These charges include basic bed linen.

The Octagon:

There is a day rate of $60 per day for the use of the Octagon.

Catering:

We have a fabulous caterer - who lives in the community and catering is her business and passion. She does all the catering for our groups, when needed, and her food is very tasty and creative vegetarian or vegan fare. We can determine charges for catering once we have established your requirements.
If you wish to self-cater, there is a group fee of twenty dollars per meal for use of our community kitchen in the Lodge. Meals would need to be co-ordinated so that each meal is prepared and eaten by the whole group at the one time rather than individuals preparing their own meals at different times. Also, the kitchen is only available between 7am and 9pm.

Cleaning:

We provide the venue in a clean and tidy condition and groups can elect to have a clean up on the last day to return it to this condition or our caretaker will do so for a fee of twenty dollars per hour.

Bookings and deposit:

The date(s) you are seeking are currently available for bookings.
To confirm a booking we require a financial deposit of 20% based on minimum numbers. The deposit will be refunded if the booking is cancelled more than two weeks before or it will be forfeited if cancelled within two weeks of the first day of the booking.
As we are unable to hold open dates indefinitely, the deposit needs to be paid within ten calendar days (with e-mail notification to learningcentre@mooramoora.org.au) or the dates will become available for other enquiries. We hope that you will understand our need to balance the consideration we have for you with the needs and logistics of the community.
